Description
Zellige is a handmade natural clay tile from the Fez region of Morocco. The clay is kneaded with water, shaped by hand with unrefined clay, air-dried, and fired in the kiln. The glaze is applied to the raw tile in several shimmering semi-transparent shades. This creates pearly, metallic, volcanic, or opaque tones. The characteristic features of Zellige are the irregular surfaces, the color nuances, and the depth of color. Each Zellige tile is unique. These one-of-a-kind pieces are a symbol of Moroccan architecture. The wallpapers are available in 28 beautiful colors. The palette ranges from subtle, earthy tones that highlight the furnishings to bold shades like denim or aqua, reminiscent of rushing water and bringing a fresh atmosphere to the interior. Each color is finely shaded – always ranging from delicate, light tones to intense nuances – creating the typical depth and variety seen in real tiles. What makes the collection special is the three-dimensionality of the design. Carefully defined tonal values have been created for each tile, so that a wallpapered wall is almost indistinguishable from the original ceramic surface. Thus, Zellige captures the magic of the Orient and brings the charm of a centuries-old craft tradition into every room – enriched with the mystical and colorful lifestyle of the East.
